Having sheep in vineyards to graze down all of the weeds and green matter post-harvest is an ancient practice that is making a comeback today. Sheep naturally love all of the weeds that grow throughout the fall, winter and spring seasons creating a clean environment for the dormant vineyard to rest until bud break, often eliminating the need for herbicides or tillage. The natural fertilizer (manure) which the sheep replenish the soil with is an underrated added bonus to any vineyard.
